These words are ones that are burned into my memories of Easter as it was a hymn we always sang.
The thing that sticks with me about it isn’t a specific Easter, or a specific memory, it’s the power of the refrain as we sung it. It was sung with gusto and fervor. Not just as another hymn but as words that were believed, felt, and lived.
Take a deep breath. Then slowly let it out. You can do this while counting to five, or while reciting a prayer. I find the best breath prayer is to pray these words:
(Breath in) be still
(Breath out) and know
(Breath in) I am
(Breath out) God
There’s something about pausing for a moment to let words reside in your soul. Whether it’s words prayed while breathing or words sung with gusto and courage, we know that on Easter the words we sing, the words we say, and the words we hear matter.
This Easter may you hear the Word again. May you know that he Rose from the Grave. May you feel his presence among us.
